This treatment is highly effective because the Zoom Advanced Power Chairside Lamp allows the hydrogen peroxide of the whitening gel to penetrate the teeth, where it is broken down, and oxygen is able to enter the enamel and dentin of the teeth. Stained substances in the teeth are then bleached, while the tooth structure itself is unaffected.

The procedure for a Zoom Whitening treatment takes less than an hour, though your dentist will most likely recommend teeth cleaning before the procedure begins. You will have your lips and gums isolated at the start of the procedure to keep them protected. The Zoom whitening gel will then be applied to the teeth and left on for 15 minutes as the activation light is also applied. This will be repeated twice (for a total of three 15-minute sessions) before the treatment is completed. Your dentist will finish up by applying a fluoride paste-gel to minimize tooth sensitivity.
